IP Paging Intercom Server for Campus-Wide Paging and Communications Control

The Carina Paging Intercom Server (PICS) builds on the capabilities of Wahsega’s original Diet IP PBX with expanded flash storage and SDRAM as well as enhanced audio ports and I/O capabilities to support future functionality. PICS is an advanced hardware appliance capable of supporting additional VoIP endpoints, hunt groups and ring groups as well as a front-end voice attendant. It allows Wahsega customers to easily create a complete VoIP & paging communication system using Wahsega’s intercoms, paging adapters, IP phones and IP ceiling speakers as well as any third-party SIP compliant devices. With PICS, users can easily deploy a campus-wide paging and IP intercom system in educational, correctional, healthcare, manufacturing, multi-tenant office and hospitality markets. In conjunction with Wahsega’s VoIP endpoints, PICS is a key component in the Carina Communications Solution, forming a complete Wahsega solution for customers’ paging, VoIP communications and access control needs.

Wahsega’s PICS is powered via Power over Ethernet (PoE 802.3af), uses less than 2 watts of power, and supports up to 256 registered SIP devices with 16 concurrent local calls. The USA-manufactured device has a rugged aluminum housing designed to fit into a 1U rack, with an additional mounting option for a standard 35mm DIN rail (top-hat), and can withstand industrial operating temperatures from −40°C to +85°C. PICS also comes with a built-in DHCP server for customers who need to deploy full VoIP communication systems on isolated LANs without a router.

Creating and configuring a VoIP communication system using PICS is incredibly simple with the included Web interface. The built-in webpages display all of the devices which have received an IP address from PICS, with clickable links to open each device’s Web interface. IP paging is available by dialing a preconfigured SIP extension from any IP phone; PICS rebroadcasts the audio to configured devices via RTP multicast. Background music is also supported through a line-in audio jack. Wahsega’s PICS has the lowest power consumption of any IP PBX on the market while also employing an extensive fault tolerance monitoring/management system to ensure maximum device uptime.
